Il Prof. Salvatore Novo ha conseguito la Laurea in Medicina e Chirurgia con Lode a 24 anni, nel 1972. Ha conseguito, successivamente, tre specializzazioni, con il massimo dei voti e la lode, in Malattie dell’Apparato Cardiovascolare – MCV (1976, UNIPA), in Medicina Interna (1982, UNIPA) e in Angiologia Medica (1985, UNICT). Ha percorso tutti i gradini della carriera universitaria da borsista (1973) a Ricercatore (1980), Professore Associato (1987) e, infine, Professore ordinario di MCV (2001-2018), Direttore della U.O.C. di Cardiologia dell’A.O.U.P. “Giaccone” (2004-2018), Direttore della Scuola di Specializzazione in MCV (2003-2011 e 2016-2018), Direttore del Dottorato di Ricerca in Scienze Cardiovascolari, e, più volte, di Master di II livello di Ecocardiografia e di Malattie Vascolari. E’ stato Presidente delle più importanti Società Scientifiche in ambito cardiovascolare, nazionali, europee e internazionali (WG ESC Peripheral Circulation, Fondazione SIC, SIC, IUA, CEVF). Si è sempre occupato di Malattie dell’Apparato Cardiovascolare sia in campo clinico dove dapprima da Assistente e Aiuto e successivamente da Direttore, ha seguito personalmente in circa 46 anni di attività non meno di 50.000 pazienti affetti da MCV, spesso complicati anche da patologie internistiche associate. In campo scientifico ha sviluppato ricerche nel settore della cardiopatia ischemica acuta e cronica, delle cardiopatie rare (Takotsubo), dell'epidemiologia e dei fattori di rischio dell'aterosclerosi, dell'ipertensione arteriosa, dell’aterosclerosi preclinica, delle vasculopatie periferiche e della polidistrettualità della malattia aterosclerotica. E’ stato invitato a svolgere letture e relazioni magistrali in importanti congressi internazionali e nazionali. Attualmente ha H Index 47 – Impact Factor > 2.000 – Citazioni > 23.000.
